In this particular painting I limited my palette to the compliments
of blue and orange and the neutrals, except for those green eyes!

 I had to keep my ankle and foot elevated and iced today and trying to paint was difficult.  Because of this issue I used a new medium on this cat.  Derwent has introduced a colored ink pencil called Inktense which flows with water and you can make the painting transparent or opaque.  Once it is dry, it is permanent and will accept more layers of paint or pencil and does not bleed.  It acts like acrylic paint.  I found it difficult to maintain sharp fine details so I used acrylic paint on the whiskers and eyes as I completed the piece.

This was a difficult painting with all the reflections

but once it was finished I was very pleased.
I am 1/5 completed - small milestone!

I did a pink base in this painting to offset the cool blue shadows. 
I decided the background would help intensify the pinks in the fur.
